These images are attributed to the pseudonymous, previously unknown Spanish-born artist Alejoandro Miralder (1901-1981). A fanciful exercise in composition and form using a primary palette, plus black and white, Miralder drew unapologetic inspiration from his contemporaries Joan Miro and Alexander Calder; his highest ambition was to create an aesthetic fusion of the two masters' styles, while addressing social and political concerns of the day. The work is from a portfolio I seem to recall finding in an obscure antique store off a derelict Venetian piazza while visiting the 2017 Venice Biennale. Subsequent investigation into Miralder's life and work has pointed to the existence of an additional portfolio in the bedroom closet of a villa in a medieval hill town in the South of France. Additional images will appear on this page should my research efforts prove fruitful.
